All SPS3 sites have now conducted participant end-study visits with the last follow-ups being completed in April 2012.  We wish to extend our  gratitude to all study participants, site coordinators, and investigators for their hard work and dedication to SPS3 over the years; the study was successful in exceeding it’s enrollment target of 3000 with a final number of 3020 participants.

The support of the sponsor, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is appreciated for recognizing the importance of the SPS3 research initiative.

SPS3 is a study for persons who have experienced a small subcortical stroke also known as a lacunar stroke. The main goal of this study is to learn more about preventing another stroke from happening to people who have already had a subcortical stroke; the study is also seeking information about the best level of blood pressure control after a stroke. Between 2003 and 2011, 3020 participants from 81 clinical sites in North America, Latin America and Spain were randomized.  More background and history can be found under ‘About Us’.
